My White Bicycle - Tomorrow

My white bicycle was one of the two singles of the first record of  the inglish band Tomorrow. Tomorrow (previously known as The In Crowd and before that as Four Plus One) were a 1960s psychedelic rock band. Despite critical acclaim and support from DJ John Peel who featured them on his "Perfumed Garden" radio show, the band was not a great success in commercial terms. They were among the first psychedelic bands in England along with Pink Floyd and Soft Machine. Tomorrow recorded the first ever John Peel show session on BBC Radio 1 on 21 September 1967.The band released two singles, one of which, "My White Bicycle", was later covered by heavy rock act Nazareth, and as a novelty record by Neil the Hippy (Nigel Planer) of The Young Ones TV series. According to drummer John 'Twink' Alder, the song was inspired by the Dutch Provos, an anarchist group in Amsterdam which instituted a community bicycle program: "they had white bicycles in Amsterdam and they used to leave them around the town. And if you were going somewhere and you needed to use a bike, you'd just take the bike and you'd go somewhere and just leave it. Whoever needed the bikes would take them and leave them when they were done."
The Scottish rock band Nazareth cover version,  reached #14 in the UK charts in 1975. Actor Nigel Planer, as his character 'Neil the Hippy' from TV-series The Young Ones, reached #97 with his cover in 1984.

"The Seven" is the 123rd episode of the NBC sitcom Seinfeld. This was the 13th episode for the seventh season. It aired on February 1, 1996. Elaine strains her neck trying to get a bike down from the wall in a store. In pain, she impulsively claims that she would give up the bike to whoever fixes her neck. When Kramer gives her a treatment that makes her feel better, he demands the bike despite it being a girl's bike. Elaine reluctantly complies, but her neck pain soon returns worse than ever, so she demands the bike back. The pair decide to have a neutral third party, Newman, decide who should keep the bike. In a reference to the Judgment of Solomon, Newman decrees that the bike be cut in half, with both Elaine and Kramer receiving one half. Elaine thinks the idea is ridiculous but hesitantly agrees, but Kramer tells Newman to give the bike to Elaine, saying he would rather it belong to her than see it destroyed. Much to Elaine's outrage, this leads Newman to decree the bike should be Kramer's (although Kramer later sells the bike to Newman for $50).

Pink Floyd - Bike

The Piper at the Gates of Dawn.

"Bike" is a song by British psychedelic rock band Pink Floyd, featured on their 1967 debut album, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. In the song, Syd Barrett's lyrical subject shows a girl, his bike (which he borrowed), a cloak, a homeless mouse that he calls Gerald, and a clan of gingerbread men—because she "fits in with [his] world". With each repetition of the chorus, a sudden percussive noise is heard similar to the firing of two gunshots. Towards the end of the song, he offers to take her into a "room of musical tunes". The final verse is followed by an instrumental section that is a piece of musique concrète: a noisy collage of oscillators, clocks, gongs, bells, a violin, and other sounds edited with tape techniques, apparently the "other room" spoken of in the song and giving the impression of the turning gears of a bicycle. The ending of the song fades out with a tape loop of the band members laughing reversed and played at double speed. The song was written for Barrett's then girlfriend, Jenny Spires. She is also mentioned in the song "Lucifer Sam", which is also on The Piper at the Gates of Dawn.
